All kids seem to go through a dinosaur phase. You know, when they can't get enough of these weird creatures. They watch TV programs and movies on the animals, read books and possibly like to get toys of these long gone critters. Interactive Dinosaur toys are a great idea for kids in the vortex of this Dinosaur fixation. This article will cover a few of the popular items for Christmas 2010.
The latest interactive Dinosaurs are from the Dinosaur Train series. This is a cartoon series that is screen on the PBS network. It basically tells young children (preschoolers) all about the life and times of these extinct animals. The main character of the series is Buddy, a baby T-Rex. He is adopted by a Pteranodon family ( Pteranodon are flying dinosaurs). The family has three kids the same age a Buddy - Tiny, Shiny and Don. Kids can relate to these characters as they are the same age as the children and presumably these dinokids are facing the same issues the human kids have to face.
The Dinosaur Train toys are interactive in that you can touch parts of their body and they will make a sound and perform an action. Buddy is a T-Rex so he will roar and chomp his jaws up and down if you touch him in the right place. Of course, this pails into insignificance compared to Boris. Boris is another character from the series and he is an adult Tyrannosaurus Rex. He will actually have a roaring contest with you (or your kids anyway).
All the toy figures can do other things too, including walking or flapping wings depending on the species of Dinosaur. If you touch them on the tummy they will also start telling you all about Dinosaurs. Kids can learn about the creatures just by listening to the toys. You can also get the train that all the creature ride on in the TV series. When a child has the set they can invent their own stories and generally get creative with their play.
Other popular interactive dinosaur toys are the remote controlled products. These can range from very simple toys that roar and move backwards and forwards through to those that are referred to as robots. Robotic Dinosaurs have rubber "skin" and individual motors that control various limbs.
Some even have artificial intelligence that makes the creature learn as it goes. These toys can get quite expensive and are probably more suited to older children and even adults. In some case they are so intricate and detailed that it's a bit like having a pet to look after. The most well known robotic dinotoy is Pleo.
